KATSEYE's Sophia Takes Hiatus Ahead of Comeback, Following Manon
KATSEYE member Sophia is stepping back from group activities to focus on her health. The joint girl group from HYBE and Geffen Records confirmed the news in an official statement on Aug. 8.
"We know many EYEKONS have been looking forward to seeing Sophia on stage, but right now, putting her mental health and well-being first is what matters most," the agency said, referring to the group's fandom by name.
The statement added that Sophia is receiving full support and that, after close consultation with medical professionals, she has been advised to take enough time to rest and continue care for a full recovery.
According to the agency, Sophia has expressed a strong desire to return to the stage. Still, the label said the decision came down to putting her long-term well-being first. "Our artists' health, safety and long-term well-being are always our top priority," the statement read. The agency plans to check in on her condition again in September and share further updates with fans.
Sophia also shared her own message on social media. "It really breaks my heart that I won't be able to be part of so many of these moments with you," she wrote. "You all know how much I love being on stage, performing and sharing these moments with you."
She continued, "This decision wasn't easy, but I'm learning that my health has to come first. I'm realizing that if I don't take care of my mind and body right now, I won't be able to keep doing what I love most for a long time."
She also signaled her intent to come back. "I'll do my best to get through this time, recover properly and return in a healthier place," she said.
Sophia's break follows a similar move by fellow member Manon, who announced her own pause in February. With Manon roughly six months into her hiatus, KATSEYE will now promote as a four-member lineup for the time being.
The news lands just days before a major release. KATSEYE is set to drop its third EP, "WILD," on Aug. 14, with the pre-release single "Animal" already out to build momentum. Beginning in Sept., the group will head out on "THE WILDWORLD Tour," a 31-date world tour spanning 10 countries across North America and Europe.
