Xdinary Heroes' Gunil Leaves Group After Fan-Insult Controversy
K-pop band Xdinary Heroes leader Gunil is leaving the group after a controversy involving leaked audio in which he allegedly insulted fans and spoke poorly of his bandmates. His agency, JYP Entertainment, announced on Aug. 13 that the group will move forward as a five-member act.
In its official statement, JYP Entertainment said it had recognized the seriousness of the situation and held extensive discussions with the artist. "As a result, we have determined that it is difficult to continue team activities together and have decided by mutual agreement to terminate the exclusive contract," the agency said. "Gunil will leave Xdinary Heroes and conclude his activities with the team effective today."
The company apologized to fans for the abrupt news and said it would fully support the remaining members as they focus on their music.
The controversy began circulating on online communities, where a woman claiming to be Gunil's ex-girlfriend posted allegations against him. She released audio recordings that she said captured Gunil cursing at fans and talking behind his bandmates' backs. The clips included remarks such as "I want to slap [fans'] cheeks" and comments expressing open contempt for fans, drawing sharp backlash online.
Despite the exit, Xdinary Heroes is scheduled to perform at the Japanese music festival "Summer Sonic 2026" on Aug. 14. The group also has a third fan meeting on the calendar. The three-day event runs September 18 through 20 at Korea University's Hwajung Gymnasium in Seongbuk district, Seoul, with three total shows.
