YoonA Reunites With 'King the Land' Grandmother Kim Young-ok Ahead of 20th Anniversary

Veteran actress Kim Young-ok could not hide her surprise when YoonA of Girls' Generation revealed she is approaching her 20th debut anniversary. The two reunited on Kim's YouTube channel for a warm, unscripted catch-up between a grandmother and her on-screen granddaughter.

On the 19th, a video titled "The Real Granddaughter Appears: Sarang and Grandma Reunite" was posted on the YouTube channel "Kim Young-ok." YoonA appeared as a guest and chatted with the actress about her career and life. The pair previously worked together on the drama "King the Land," where they played grandmother and granddaughter.

YoonA smiled shyly and handed over a handwritten introduction card she had prepared for the visit. She noted that she debuted in 2007 and will mark her 20th anniversary next year. Kim Young-ok teased her about it. "It doesn't feel like it's been that long, but it's already 20 years?" she said. "People are going to think you're really old."

YoonA agreed with a laugh. "It's because I debuted when I was so young," she said.

Kim tried to reassure her. "It's fine. In Korean age, you're only about 34," she said. YoonA, who was born in 1990, laughed at the miscalculation. "Are you sure about that?" she asked, before correcting the math. "I wrote down that I was born in 1990. I'm 37."

Later in the video, Kim surprised YoonA with a cake to celebrate her 19th debut anniversary. YoonA, receiving congratulations from a senior actress now in her 69th year in the industry, looked a little embarrassed but thanked her warmly.

The clip captured a quiet moment between two generations of Korean entertainment. For YoonA, one of K-pop's longest-running idols turned actresses, the countdown to two full decades in the industry has already begun.
