i-dle's Miyeon Health Check Video Draws Medical Ad Complaint; Producers Deny Sponsorship
The production team behind a health screening video featuring i-dle member Miyeon has denied allegations that the video constituted medical advertising after a viewer filed a formal complaint.
The team behind the YouTube channel Jeondosa said on Sept. 8 that it had not received any request from the medical facility where the video was filmed to advertise, promote or produce the content. It added that it had received no payment, sponsorship or other financial support in connection with the video.
"The production team paid the full cost of Miyeon's health screening and medical treatment," the team said. "We also want to make clear that there was no intention to recommend or promote any particular medical facility or medical professional."
In some scenes from the initially released version, information identifying the medical facility was not sufficiently obscured. The production team said it discovered the issue during a review following the release of the teaser and immediately added further blurring and made other necessary changes. It then carefully reviewed the full video again. The team pledged to exercise greater care throughout the planning, production and pre-release review process.
On Sept. 1, Jeondosa uploaded a video titled "i-dle's Miyeon First Health Checkup at 30, Did I... Say Nonsense?" The video showed Miyeon undergoing a general health screening and a sedated gastroscopy.
The controversy began on Sept. 7, when a viewer filed a complaint with Yongsan Public Health Center in Seoul through the government's e-People petition system.
