Cheongeum (청음)

Jang Cheongeum — known professionally as Cheongeum (청음) — built an early following through her vocal work on reality competition content, most notably the recognition she received around *Voice Play*, before carving out a solo path marked by the ongoing *Dream* series. Her second EP *DAYDREAM*, released in early 2026, represented her first physical album in four years and signaled a deliberate return to the spotlight on her own terms.

Debut & Formation

Cheongeum's career prior to her solo work included stints in several group projects: she served as Lead Vocalist and Visual in API (Ho1iday), and held vocalist roles in both BLINDZ and Bunny.T. None of those lineups are currently active for her. The path that brought her wider attention ran through Boys Planet, the Mnet survival format, though she ultimately did not secure placement in a spinoff group — a circumstance she has addressed openly rather than sidestepped.

Music & Discography

Her solo output is framed around a thematic arc she calls the *Dream* series. *DAYDREAM* is the second installment in that sequence, arriving in March 2026 with concept photography built around a warm, softly atmospheric visual language. At the *DAYDREAM* showcase, Cheongeum described the record's intent plainly: it is designed to carry a message of hope directed at people whose ambitions are dismissed by those around them — a theme she articulated with the phrase "you won't make it, they mock my dreams." That frankness extends to what she identifies as her core advantage as a solo act: the freedom to deliver a personal message rather than the genre's default vocabulary of romantic narratives.

Activities

The *DAYDREAM* showcase in late March 2026 also touched on the Boys Planet spinoff situation directly. Cheongeum declined to make that absence a defining grievance, instead framing *DAYDREAM* as an opportunity to demonstrate growth in both her artistry and her performance. She drew comparisons to fellow solo artists working in adjacent spaces — citing VERIVERY's Kangmin and DAY6's Wonpil in the context of what distinguishes her voice in a competitive field — while maintaining that her strength lies in the specificity of what she chooses to say, not only in vocal technique.
