Daeseong (대성)

Yun Dae Seong, known professionally as Daesung, built his name as one of the principal vocalists of BIGBANG, the YG Entertainment group that shaped the sound of Korean pop across the late 2000s and 2010s. His most recent representative work, the 2024 single "HOME SWEET HOME," marked a return to the spotlight after years of intermittent activity, while a trot performance at the Coachella Festival in April 2026 — singing "Handochoga" and "Look at Me, Gwisun" alongside BIGBANG bandmates G-Dragon and Taeyang — drew a notably enthusiastic international response and renewed conversation about his range as a performer.

Debut & Formation

Daesung came to prominence as a member of BIGBANG under YG Entertainment, where his vocal power and stage presence distinguished him within the group's lineup. He also held membership in the group DREAMER earlier in his career. His skill as a composer is reflected in the 2010 work "Cotton Candy," one of his credited musical compositions.

Music & Discography

Outside his work with BIGBANG, Daesung developed a substantial solo catalog across the first half of the 2010s. The album D'scover arrived in 2013 and was followed by two releases in 2014: D'slove and Delight. Each release was supported by live activity — the D'scover Tour and D'slove Tour extended his solo profile across the region, and the DNA Show Vol. 1 concert series added further stops. The 2017 extended play D-Day marked his next significant solo statement before a longer gap in studio output. "HOME SWEET HOME" in 2024 served as his return to recorded solo work.

His Coachella appearance in 2026 drew particular attention for its genre departure. Performing trot — a distinctly Korean popular music form with roots predating idol pop — before a largely international festival audience, Daesung delivered a set that drew enthusiastic crowd reactions and prompted commentary in both domestic and international media about the genre's crossover viability. He later addressed the choice candidly on his YouTube channel "Zip Daesung," stating the decision was not made with any notion of national cultural representation in mind.

Activities

Beyond recording and touring, Daesung has maintained a visible presence through screen and digital media. He appeared on the SBS Plus travel variety program "Manly Men's Travel Guide" alongside Kim Jong-kook and Choo Sung-hoon, with the Kyushu special generating coverage for its candid group dynamic. His YouTube channel, "Zip Daesung," has become a consistent venue for unscripted content — hosting guests including Oh My Girl's Mimi and NCT WISH, and offering behind-the-scenes commentary on his own career, including reflections on BIGBANG's past restrictions around music show appearances. He is also scheduled to appear at the Asia Top Music Festival 2026.
