Dami (다미)

Kang Hye-yeon, who performs under the name Dami, built her career across two distinct group chapters before her solo profile rose through competitive Korean broadcast. As leader of EXID — the group whose 2014 viral resurgence around "Up & Down" reshaped conversations about how K-pop acts recover and sustain momentum — she held the dual roles of lead vocalist and lead rapper through the group's most commercially significant years. Her earlier membership in Bestie adds another layer to a career that has navigated multiple label environments and musical registers, from dance-driven K-pop to contemporary R&B and trot.

Debut & Formation

Before EXID, Dami was a member of Bestie, a girl group whose trajectory gave her early grounding in the mechanics of K-pop promotion. Her move into EXID — where she took on the leadership position as well as primary vocal and rap duties — placed her at the center of one of the more discussed comeback stories in the genre. EXID debuted in difficult circumstances and spent years on the margins before a fan-filmed fancam of "Up & Down" circulated widely in late 2014, pulling the track back onto charts long after its original release. Dami was present through that entire arc, from the lean early period to the sustained activity that followed.

Activities

In 2026, Dami secured a place in the TOP7 of *Current Singer King 3*, a survival music program structured around active Korean singers competing to be named national representatives. Her selection, alongside contestants including Hong Ji-yoon, reflected the competitive standard of the show. A notable subplot of her run was a reunion with Solji, a current EXID member, who also advanced to the TOP7 — the two had crossed paths once previously on a variety program, making their parallel placement on the same broadcast a point of audience interest. Dami's presence at the show's finale press conference, and the attention her performance drew throughout the competition, marked a visible moment for her individual profile outside the group context.
