Seven years after first appearing on a survival program, Kang Seokhwa is stepping into new creative territory. The WEi member has been cast as 'Jang Bo-go' in the original Korean musical 6 O'Clock 퇴근, a development that marks his most prominent solo venture to date beyond the group.
Debut & Formation
Kang Seokhwa came to public attention through two high-profile television survival programs before his debut — YG Treasure Box, the 2018-2019 series that sought to form a new YG Entertainment act, and Produce X 101, Mnet's 2019 elimination competition. Neither appearance resulted in a final group placement for him, but the exposure established a visible pre-debut profile.
He subsequently debuted as a member of WEi (위아이), the group under OUI Entertainment with which he remains active.
Activities
The musical casting announced in March 2026 represents a notable expansion of Kang Seokhwa's individual activity. Taking on the role of Jang Bo-go in 6 O'Clock 퇴근 — an original production, not an adaptation — places him in a performance context distinct from his work with WEi, and follows a path several idol-rooted artists have taken toward musical theatre.
