Malsook (말숙)

Known through his time on the survival competition Boys Planet, Malsook — born Jang Haneul — has built a quiet but persistent solo presence in the years since, releasing music under the name Jang Han-eum and finding an audience drawn to his more personal, message-driven approach to songwriting.

Debut & Formation

Before his solo work, Malsook was a member of OSDS, where he held the maknae position. His wider public profile took shape through his participation in Boys Planet, the Mnet survival series that drew significant viewership and produced several active acts from its roster. Though he did not secure a place in a Boys Planet spinoff group — reports indicated he missed out on joining one such project, with the duo that emerged from the follow-up series Boys 2 Planet ultimately comprising Choi Lip-woo and Kang Woo-jin under FNC Entertainment — the exposure cemented his recognition among a broader fanbase.

Music & Activities

Malsook gained notable traction with "Voice Play," a track that contributed to his early solo momentum. His output since has operated under the "Dream" series framework, a thematic throughline centred on hope and personal resilience. In March 2026, he released DAYDREAM, his second EP and his first physical album in four years, marking a considered return to the music scene. At the release showcase, he described the project as a direct response to a cultural climate that dismisses idealism — music intended to offer comfort and inspiration to listeners navigating similar pressures. He has also spoken about the particular freedom of solo work, noting that it allows him to move away from conventional love-song formats and communicate the content he genuinely wants to share.

The gap between physical releases reflects a career path that has not followed a standard idol rollout, but the arrival of DAYDREAM — supported by concept photos carrying a warm, atmospheric quality — signalled a deliberate effort to assert his footing as a standalone artist.
