"Filmlet" and "Butterfly Effect" placed BOL4 among the most recognisable names in Korean indie-pop — a duet built around warm, confessional songwriting that has consistently found its way onto the country's major streaming charts since the pair's formation in 2016. Signed to Shofar Music and distributed through King Records, the group draws on a range of influences that runs from traditional folk and indie pop through to contemporary R&B, giving their catalog a texture that sets them apart from the more production-heavy mainstream of K-pop.

Debut and formation

BOL4 came together in 2016, launching that year with two releases: the album RED PLANET and the extended play *Half Album RED ICKLE*. The dual-release debut established their working method early — melodic, vocally centred material with live instrumentation woven in — and built an initial audience before the group had the benefit of the promotional machinery that surrounds larger label acts.

Music and discography

The years that followed the debut were defined by a sustained run of extended plays that tracked closely with personal, often emotionally specific themes. *Red Diary Page.1* (2017) and *Red Diary Page.2* (2018) formed a two-part sequence, while the pair returned in 2019 with *Puberty Book Ⅰ Bom* and *Two Five*, the latter released the same year, demonstrating a productive output that their audience responded to steadily.

*Puberty Book Ⅱ Pum* arrived in 2020 alongside the single Filmlet, one of the duo's representative works and a track that distilled their approach to gentle, emotionally resonant pop. Butterfly Effect, released in 2021, extended that profile further and stands alongside *Filmlet* as the material most closely associated with the group's identity. The 2022 extended play *Seoul* marked the most recent full project before a period of reduced output.

In April 2026, BOL4 returned with the single *Find You* — their first new material in approximately a year and a half — timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of their debut. The track is notable for its origin: it was written by vocalist Ahn Ji-young a decade earlier and had gone unreleased until the anniversary provided an occasion to share it.

  • ODD CHILD — Main Rapper, Sub-Vocalist, Guitarist, Maknae

The duet's sound rests substantially on the interplay between BOL4's lead vocal work and ODD CHILD's guitar, the latter giving the group's live and recorded output a band-adjacent quality uncommon in mainstream K-pop.

Achievements

BOL4 has received recognition at several of South Korea's principal awards ceremonies, including the Melon Music Awards, the Golden Disk Awards, the Korean Music Awards, and the Circle Chart Music Awards. The Korean Music Awards, in particular, is considered one of the more critically weighted honours in the domestic industry, and inclusion in that circle reflects the respect the duo commands beyond the purely commercial streaming metrics.

Legacy

Ten years into a career built largely on songwriting craft rather than spectacle, BOL4 occupies a durable position in Korean pop. Their catalog maps a consistent sensibility — introspective, melodically strong, rooted in genuine instrumentation — that has sustained listener loyalty across a decade and earned the group recognition from award bodies that span both commercial and critical audiences. The decision to mark their tenth anniversary with an unreleased composition from the earliest days of the project speaks to a relationship with their catalog that is as much archival as it is promotional.
