5TION (오션)

Six years of silence makes a comeback meaningful in ways that a routine release cycle never can. 5TION (오션), the eight-member South Korean boy group whose roots stretch back to a December 2001 debut, announced in April 2026 that they would return with a new song, "I'll Be On Your Side" — a track written and composed in part by member Chris Lee, framed explicitly as a gift to the fanbase, known as Orion, that had kept faith across the gap.

Debut & Formation

5TION entered the Korean pop landscape on December 27, 2001, at a moment when the first generation of the idol system was already establishing the templates that would define the industry for decades. Their eight-member lineup — Changwoo, Il Kwon, Juho, Jun Young, Junho, Len, Marine, and Noa — placed them among the larger boy group configurations of that era.

A Long-Awaited Return

The 2026 announcement of "I'll Be On Your Side" marked the group's first new music in six years, a gap that in itself signals the particular rhythm of first-generation acts: careers shaped by long pauses, selective activity, and a fanbase whose loyalty is measured in patience rather than chart cycles. That a member, Chris Lee, took on the writing and composing responsibilities for the comeback adds a layer of personal investment to the release, distinguishing it from a standard label-driven project and positioning it as something closer to a direct address to Orion.
