Can Choi Yoojung Sustain the Buzz From I.O.I's Reunion?

Singer Choi Yoo-jung is returning to solo work for the first time in about four years. Her second solo single, "Perfect Target," drops at June 30, 6 p.m. KST across major music platforms.

The release follows her first solo single, "Sunflower," which came out in September 2022. Ahead of the comeback, her agency Fantagio shared the title poster for "Perfect Target" on its official social media accounts on the 15th. The image shows a pink bedroom set with ribbon accents and beaded details. The album title is rendered in a kitschy lettering style.

Choi has built a career that moves between group work and solo music. Alongside her activities with the group Weki Meki, she has released music on her own, and after the group's run she stayed in front of audiences as a musical theater actor. More recently she joined the reunion activities of the project group I.O.I, the survival-show lineup first assembled in 2016, and took part in the new song "Suddenly." She is also currently on "LOOP," a concert tour marking her 10th debut anniversary.

"Perfect Target" is her first solo record since the I.O.I reunion. The timing stands out. She is stepping back into solo work right after the reunion drew renewed attention to her name. How much of that group-driven interest carries over into her individual career is now the question worth watching.
