Kim Hyung Jun, the 38-year-old singer who debuted with SS501 in 2005, turned heads on Korean television by laying out a personal financial profile big enough to almost cost him a spot on the show.

On the June 22 episode of TV Chosun's variety program Chosun Wedding, comedian Yang Sang-guk held auditions for a "Tier 6 Club," a group of single men he plans to join in dating activities. Kim signed up alongside baseball figures Shim Soo-chang and Shim Jaewon.

The catch came on the application form. Kim checked boxes indicating he holds a college degree, has never been divorced, owns assets worth more than 500 million won (about $360,000), and owns both his home and his car. The profile was strong enough to put him at risk of failing the paper screening for being overqualified.

Yang pressed him on the details. "You're way too high to be applying for Tier 6," he said. "You live in three places, Seoul, Tokyo and Jeju. Do you own all of them?" Kim answered, "Not all of them. But more than one."

Asked why he wanted in on a club aimed at lower-ranked bachelors, Kim framed his pitch as a team effort. "I thought of myself as Tier 1," he said. "What I want to do in the Tier 6 Club is help Sang-guk and lift everyone up so we can all become Tier 1 together."

The exchange leaned into the show's central running joke, in which contestants are graded on a tongue-in-cheek tier system tied to marriage market appeal. For Kim, who has spent the better part of two decades navigating life after one of K-pop's defining second-generation boy groups, the moment doubled as a public update on where his career has taken him off stage.
