'Vietnam's First K-Pop Idol' TEMPEST's Hanbin Launches Solo Career
TEMPEST member Hanbin is stepping out as a solo artist for the first time, using the moment to introduce a new musical direction and a personal identity built around his own story.
On Aug. 11, the group's official social media accounts shared the first concept photo for his debut digital single, "No Fear." The image quickly drew attention for its styling, which reworked the ao dai, a traditional Vietnamese garment, in a modern key.
The photo also features the phrase "HEU'NG HANBIN," a tagline that sums up his identity as a solo act. Hanbin is the first K-pop idol from Vietnam. The word "HEU'NG" plays on the Korean term "heung," a feeling of joyful energy that runs through much of Korean culture, and pulls from his birth name, Ngo Ngoc Hung. The result folds his Korean and Vietnamese backgrounds into a single keyword.
A second image released alongside the first shows a stylized frame that looks like a search for "HANBIN with FEAR." The layout turns the album's core message, that there is no version of Hanbin ruled by fear, into something a viewer can see.
"No Fear" arrives four years after Hanbin debuted with TEMPEST. As the title suggests, the single is built around the idea of trusting his own possibilities and moving forward as himself, rather than staying stuck in fear.
The digital single drops on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. KST across major music platforms.
