Soyeon, leader of the K-POP girl group i-dle, is addressing long-running rumors about her songwriting head-on as she counts down to her first full-length solo album. In a new intro video, she pushed back on speculation that she once wrote a track aimed at a former boyfriend.

Her agency, Cube Entertainment, posted the intro clip for her debut solo LP "A Hell of a Life" on i-dle's official social media accounts at midnight on August 26.

The video opens with Soyeon marking the last birthday of her 20s and saying, "You could call it a hell of a ride." It walks through her childhood, her trainee years, her run on Mnet's "Produce 101," her debut with i-dle, her work as a producer, and the making of this new album. Phrases like "I always wanted to be new" and "I wanted to be better" flash across the screen.

Midway through the clip, Soyeon smiles awkwardly and says, "I'm not the kind of person with the guts to actually diss an ex-boyfriend in one of my songs." The comment appears to answer years of speculation that "LIAR," a track from i-dle's 2022 studio album "I NEVER DIE," was written about a former partner.

Speaking about the new record, Soyeon said she had put it off for a long time. "One thing I can tell you is that when I'm a grandmother looking back at this album, I think I'll say, 'Wow, that was really romantic,'" she said. "Please look forward to 'A Hell of a Life'." The video closes with the release details: September 7 at 6 p.m. KST.

Soyeon has already given fans an early look at the record. At Waterbomb Sokcho 2026, she performed two album tracks, "STAR" and "Yachae Silheo Song," for the first time. Music videos for both songs later went up on her YouTube channel "Sonyeo Soyeon Baekseo" and on i-dle's official social media.

"A Hell of a Life" arrives five years and two months after her 2021 solo mini-album "Windy." It drops September 7 at 6 p.m. KST on major streaming platforms.
