Girls' Generation's HYOYEON Reveals 19-Year Dorm Life on MBC Variety Show
Girls' Generation's HYOYEON is opening the doors to a dorm she has lived in for 19 years. The singer is set to appear on the September 5 episode of MBC's variety show "Omniscient Interfering View," offering a rare look at daily life inside a space that once housed all of Girls' Generation.
The show released a preview clip revealing that HYOYEON still lives in the group's original dorm, even after every other member moved out. The reveal caught the show's regular cast off guard.
"HYOYEON has been living in the dorm for 19 years," her manager said, drawing surprised reactions in the studio. The preview also showed HYOYEON lying on the floor instead of a bed, while her dog rested comfortably in its own cushioned bed nearby.
HYOYEON shared how her fellow members reacted when they heard she would be on the show. "Sooyoung said, 'This show is for famous people. Why are you going on it?'" she said, adding that she fired back at her close friend with a joking curse word.
The episode also captures her long-term friendship with the dorm's housekeeper, who has known HYOYEON since her high school years. "When you quit, I'll quit too," the housekeeper told her, showing just how deep their bond runs.
HYOYEON recently reunited on YouTube with Sooyoung and Yuri as part of a new group called HYORISU. The three quickly slipped back into old habits, teasing each other over who holds the main dancer title. When HYOYEON brought up dance, Yuri shot back, "I'm not interested. I just don't like it when you do it." HYOYEON turned to Sooyoung with her own jab, telling her, "Your high notes were great. You could pass as the second HYOYEON."
Nearly two decades after her debut, HYOYEON remains one of the most visible members of a group that helped define K-pop's global rise. Her return to the same dorm, and the same friendships, points to how Girls' Generation's story keeps evolving even as its members build separate careers.
