BTS' Jungkook Hits "Like" on Sweat-Soaked Cover by Rookie Group TUNEXX
K-pop group TUNEXX members Donggyu and Sungjun received an unexpected show of support from BTS' Jungkook as the rookie boy group prepared for its first comeback.
The two recently sat down with Ten Asia to mark the release of TUNEXX's second EP, "BLUE MODE." During the interview, they recalled how Jungkook reacted to a dance cover they filmed together.
Donggyu and Sungjun posted a short-form video of themselves covering Jungkook's "2.0." Jungkook later liked the video, which had been Donggyu's idea.
"I asked Sungjun to film '2.0' with me," Donggyu said. "If I had to name the best things I've done this year, it would be in the top five."
They filmed the clip in Taipei while visiting the city for overseas activities. Jungkook's song had only recently been released at the time.
"The first time I saw '2.0,' I thought the choreography was really cool," Donggyu said. "I learned the moves right away. While practicing, I thought they would look good on video, so I taught them to Sungjun and we filmed it together."
Filming was not easy, as Taipei was experiencing intense heat at the time.
"It was so hot that we were pouring sweat while filming," Donggyu said. "But as soon as I saw that Jungkook had liked it, I forgot how difficult the shoot had been."
The members were eating hot pot when they learned that Jungkook had liked the video.
"We were having hot pot in Taipei when we heard the news," Sungjun said with a laugh. "I was so excited that I remember eating a lot of hot pot that day."
He added, "I was happy that the cover helped more people discover us."
The interaction held particular significance for the members as they prepared for TUNEXX's first comeback. For Donggyu, it was also especially meaningful because the video was his idea, which he brought to life with Sungjun.
TUNEXX released its second EP, "BLUE MODE," on Sep. 2 at 6 p.m. KST.
