Girls' Generation-HRS, the newest subunit of veteran K-pop group Girls' Generation, has topped YouTube's trending music chart in South Korea with its debut single.

The unit, consisting of Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung, released "Skibidi" on Aug. 31. The track moves from house to hip-hop and carries the message, "We're making our own new path." Its playful, high-energy sound highlights the chemistry among the three members.

The accompanying performance video also reached No. 1 on YouTube's daily popular music video chart in South Korea as of Sept. 1. In the video, the members wear matching white T-shirts, jeans and caps while delivering a clean, stripped-down performance.

Girls' Generation-HRS will make its official debut stage on MBC's "Show! Music Core" on Sept. 5. The unit is set to perform "Skibidi" and the B-side track "Lowkey In Love."

The project grew out of a segment titled "Fake Kim Hyoyeon" on Hyoyeon's personal YouTube channel, "Hyo's Level Up." In the videos, Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung competed for the main vocalist and center positions while developing their chemistry as a trio. What began as variety content eventually led to an official music release and music show promotions.

Girls' Generation's history of subunits stretches back more than a decade. In 2012, Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun formed TaeTiSeo and released their first mini-album, "Twinkle." The trio distinguished itself from the full group with vocal-driven music and glamorous performances.

In 2018, Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri and Yoona formed Oh!GG and released the single "Lil' Touch." Girls' Generation-HRS continues that subunit lineage while setting itself apart through its variety-show origins and the playful chemistry among its three members.

"Skibidi" also entered the real-time and daily rankings of major streaming platforms in South Korea shortly after its release.
