Choo Sung-hoon Pauses YouTube to Prep for Retirement Fight at Black Combat 17

MMA fighter and television personality Choo Sung-hoon is taking a break from YouTube to focus on the final fight of his career. The 2.09-million-subscriber creator announced the break in a recent community post on his channel, saying he wants to put all his energy into training.

"Starting next week, I'm going to take a short break from YouTube," he wrote. "I'll focus on preparing for my upcoming fight and come back in even better shape. Please wait a little, and don't forget about me."

Choo will compete at "Black Combat 17," a mixed martial arts event scheduled for Nov. 21 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul's Guro district. The match will serve as the close out of his career as a professional fighter.

Beyond the cage, Choo is a familiar face to Korean viewers. He married Japanese top model Yano Shiho in 2009, and their daughter Choo Sa-rang was born in 2011. Father and daughter became household names after joining the KBS 2TV variety program "The Return of Superman" in 2013, before leaving the show in 2016.

His retirement bout marks the end of a long run that stretched across two countries and two careers, from the fighting ring to Korean prime-time television.
