Shin Min-a Reigns as a Eelegant Empress in Disney+'s "The Remarried Empress"

Shin Min-a is stepping into a royal court under siege. The actress leads Disney+'s upcoming original series "The Remarried Empress" as Navier, an empress who receives a sudden divorce announcement but refuses to lose her poise. The show premieres November 4 on Disney+.

Newly released character stills preview the different sides of Navier portrayed by Shin Min-a, from a commanding empress to a woman quietly reeling after being hurt by her husband, played by Ju Ji-hoon.

"The Remarried Empress" is a romance fantasy epic set in the fictional Eastern Empire. Navier (Shin Min-a) is blindsided when her husband, Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon), announces he is leaving her for a runaway slave named Rashta (Lee Se-young). Instead of simply accepting the divorce, Navier demands approval to remarry Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.

The character stills capture that turning point. In one, Navier carries herself with the full weight of the empire behind her. In another, her face tightens with something more private after the divorce announcement. She has spent years protecting her position and her duties, and even in the face of sudden heartbreak, she does not let her feelings spill out.

Shin Min-a plays that restraint carefully. Behind Navier's calm expression, there is a sense of hurt and confusion that the empress will not show in public. When Navier is faced with her own beliefs and choices, her eyes turn firm, revealing the human emotions hidden behind the title.

The look of the character shifts too. Elaborate gowns and hairstyles project the empress's authority, while the styling also highlights Shin Min-a's natural elegance. The actress described Navier as "an empress who is hurt by Sovieshu's divorce announcement but never loses her grace, deeply forward-looking and warm at the same time."

Director Jo Su-won said Navier was the first character in "The Remarried Empress" that drew him in. He wanted to portray a woman making a new choice for herself in a way that felt compelling. On casting Shin Min-a, he said, "The cool look in her eyes alongside her warmth fit Navier well." Writer Yeo Ji-na added, "The character of Navier gained a wider range when she met Shin Min-a."

The question of what choice Navier will make, and how she will hold on to her beliefs and dignity after being cast aside by her husband, sits at the center of the series. "The Remarried Empress" arrives Nov. 4 on Disney+.
