KATSEYE is enjoying its biggest year yet. Its latest EP topped the Billboard 200, several songs have made their way onto the Hot 100, and its first arena world tour is underway. But while the group's popularity continues to grow, two of its six members remain on hiatus, leaving KATSEYE to reach some of its biggest career milestones without its full lineup.

On Oct. 8, HYBE x Geffen Records announced that Sophia, who has been on hiatus since August, is expected to resume group activities in the first week of January 2027. The news confirmed that she would miss the entirety of KATSEYE's 31-show "THE WILDWORLD TOUR," which began in September. With Manon also absent since February and no confirmed date for her return, the group will complete its first arena world tour as a four-member act, raising questions about when fans might see all six members together again.

On Feb. 20, HYBE x Geffen Records announced that Manon would temporarily suspend group activities to focus on her health and well-being. Manon later reassured fans that she was doing well and remained in contact with the company. In April, she said she had been having positive conversations with HYBE x Geffen, while KATSEYE members urged fans to give her the time and space she needed. Nearly eight months later, there is still no official timeline for her return.

Sophia's hiatus began in August when she stepped away to focus on her mental health and wellness. Her condition was initially expected to be reassessed in September, but her break has since been extended through the end of the year. She will also sit out the group's remaining promotional activities in 2026.

The difference in how the two hiatuses have been addressed has also drawn attention from fans. While many welcomed the news of Sophia's expected return, it prompted fresh questions about Manon, who has been absent for nearly eight months without a confirmed return date. Some fans have called on HYBE x Geffen to provide clearer updates, while others have emphasized the importance of respecting the members' privacy and giving them time to recover.

When contacted by K-POPIT about the group's future plans and how it intends to handle the extended absences, HYBE remained tight-lipped, offering little clarification. Its cautious response suggested that the company itself may still be navigating the uncertainty surrounding the group's next steps.

In the meantime, Daniela, Lara, Megan and Yoonchae have continued performing as four, adjusting stages originally designed for six members. Some fans have expressed disappointment at missing the chance to see the full lineup, even as others have praised the remaining members' performances.

The group has faced other interruptions as well. In August, KATSEYE canceled its scheduled appearance at the Daisy Chain Fields festival after Megan sprained her ankle during tour rehearsals. Doctors advised her to rest ahead of the tour. While Megan's injury was a temporary setback, Manon and Sophia's extended absences have required KATSEYE to carry out its entire first arena tour with a reduced lineup.

Despite these disruptions, KATSEYE's commercial success has continued to grow. Its third EP, "WILD," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in August with 170,000 equivalent album units, marking the group's first chart-topping release. The result followed "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS," which peaked at No. 4. Songs including "Gnarly," "Gabriela," "Animal" and "Hootie Frutti" have also helped the group establish a growing presence in the American pop market.

But chart success and group stability are not necessarily the same thing. Album sales and streaming numbers can continue to grow even when members are unable to participate in performances. Concerts, rehearsals and promotional schedules, however, depend much more directly on who is available, making prolonged absences a challenge for planning future activities.

The situation also presents a challenge for HYBE, which created KATSEYE with Geffen Records through the survival project "The Debut: Dream Academy." The group was developed to combine K-POP's training and production methods with the American music market, and its success has become one of the clearest examples of HYBE's efforts to build artists directly in overseas markets.

Yet maintaining a group comes with different demands from launching one. K-POP's approach relies heavily on coordinated performances and promotional schedules planned well in advance. KATSEYE has shown it can continue working with fewer members, but its experience also raises questions about how that system can accommodate extended breaks while keeping group activities on track.

One K-POP industry insider suggested that cultural differences could play a role. The insider noted that artists raised outside Korea may have different expectations surrounding demanding schedules, rest and personal autonomy compared with those trained in the traditional Korean idol system. However, the specific circumstances behind KATSEYE's hiatuses have not been fully disclosed, making it difficult to determine whether those differences have played any part.

Similar situations have also affected groups based in Korea. ILLIT's Moka has taken time away from activities for health reasons, while HYBE's Latin American boy group SANTOS BRAVOS has continued promoting without a publicly announced extended hiatus since its October 2025 debut. Although the groups are at different stages of their careers, their experiences suggest that KATSEYE's situation cannot simply be explained as a clash between Korean and Western working cultures.

With the tour scheduled to end in Mexico City on Nov. 28, attention will soon turn to KATSEYE's next chapter. Sophia is expected back in January, but Manon's return remains uncertain, leaving the timing of the group's next full-lineup activities unclear.

KATSEYE has already proved it can become a global success. Whether it can build a stable, long-term career around all six members remains to be seen.
