Dongwoon (동운)

Son Dong-woon, known professionally as Dongwoon, built his public profile as the youngest member of B2ST (later rebranded as HIGHLIGHT), one of the more durable boy groups to emerge from the second generation of the Korean Wave. His career spans the full arc of that group's story — from its 2009 debut under Cube Entertainment through the legal and identity complications that led the members to reconstitute themselves as HIGHLIGHT under their own label, Around US Entertainment, in 2017.

Debut & Formation

Dongwoon debuted with B2ST on October 14, 2009, alongside five other members. The group carved out a distinct lane in the crowded idol landscape of that era, known for a more emotive, performance-driven sound compared to the brighter, dance-pop acts of the period. Dongwoon occupied the maknae position — the youngest in the group — a role that carried specific expectations in Korean idol culture while he also contributed as a vocalist.

Group History & Transition

The more consequential chapter of Dongwoon's career came with B2ST's departure from Cube Entertainment. Following the exit of member Junhyung and ongoing contractual issues, the remaining five members — including Dongwoon — re-formed as HIGHLIGHT in 2017, operating independently under Around US Entertainment. The transition was notable in the industry as an example of artists successfully reclaiming their identity and continuing to operate without major-label infrastructure, sustaining a loyal fanbase across the changeover.

Activities

Beyond his work with HIGHLIGHT, Dongwoon has maintained a presence through individual activities, consistent with the pattern of idol group members developing parallel solo or acting careers. The structured facts available do not detail a documented solo discography under his own name within the provided material, and no solo chart figures or awards are on record here.

His continued membership in HIGHLIGHT, a group that has remained active into the mid-2020s, represents the primary body of his professional output.
