Highlight (하이라이트)

When HIGHLIGHT debuted on 20 March 2017, the group carried more history than most new acts. Its five members — Doojoon, Yoseop, Gikwang, Junhyung, and Dongwoon — had spent years together before under a different name, and the relaunch represented something unusual in K-pop: an established group reclaiming its own identity and continuing on its own terms. Their fanbase, known as Light, followed them through that transition and remains the core of the group's audience today.

Debut & Formation

HIGHLIGHT's debut in March 2017 was not a conventional introduction to the industry. The five members had accumulated substantial experience as a group prior to this point, and the 2017 launch marked a deliberate new chapter rather than a first step. The group established itself as an independent act, with Junhyung serving as main rapper alongside the broader vocal and performance contributions of the remaining members.

Activities

Beyond their collective output, individual members have pursued solo projects that they have consistently framed as extensions of, rather than departures from, the group's work. Yoseop, who made a solo comeback in early 2026, addressed this directly in an interview with K-Pop!t, describing his goal not in terms of personal ambition but as a desire to enjoy activities together with the other members. That framing — the solo career as something that feeds back into the group rather than away from it — reflects the particular dynamic that has defined HIGHLIGHT's post-2017 years, in which member activities outside the group have run alongside ongoing collective commitments.
