Gayoon (가윤)

Real name: Heo Gayoon

Born 1990South Korean165 cm♉ Taurus

Heo Gayoon spent six years as the main vocalist of 4Minute, the Cube Entertainment girl group whose 2009 debut placed her before one of K-pop's most competitive audiences. After the group's sudden disbandment in 2016, she stepped away from the industry and, by her own account, spent years working through the personal cost of that chapter — a process she brought into public view in early 2026 through a candid appearance on tvN's variety program *You Quiz on the Block*.

Formation and early career

Gayoon debuted as part of 4Minute in 2009 under Cube Entertainment, serving as the group's main vocalist throughout its run. During that period she also participated in 2Yoon, a sub-unit, and was briefly a member of Mystic White. Her path to the stage was not uncomplicated: she has spoken publicly about enduring school violence before her debut, describing a decision to absorb mistreatment rather than risk an injury that might have ended her prospects as a performer.

After 4Minute

When 4Minute disbanded in 2016, Gayoon described the experience as abrupt and disorienting. In the years that followed she developed a seven-year struggle with bulimia, which she traced back to insomnia in the immediate aftermath of the group's end. The disorder manifested as compulsive late-night eating — visiting convenience stores repeatedly, consuming food without hunger — and caused her significant psychological distress over an extended period.

The loss of her older brother in 2020, who died of heart disease shortly after moving to a new home, compounded an already difficult period. She has recalled sorting through his belongings and finding them almost entirely unused, a detail she described as particularly painful.

Life in Bali

Her 2026 appearance on *You Quiz on the Block* revealed that Gayoon had been living in Bali, Indonesia for approximately three years at the time of filming. She connected the decision to leave South Korea directly to her brother's death, describing it as a moment that made the shape of her life in Korea feel hollow. By her account, the move brought her a sense of peace she had not found at home.

Standing

Gayoon's career profile is that of a working main vocalist from one of the mid-tier Cube acts of the late 2000s and early 2010s, significant within that era's K-pop landscape without having generated a solo discography of comparable reach. What has drawn renewed attention to her in recent years is less a musical output than a frank account of the professional and personal pressures that followed the end of 4Minute — eating disorders, grief, and a deliberate withdrawal from public life. That account, delivered on a mainstream variety platform, gives her story a resonance that extends beyond the group's original audience.
