Jay Park (제이박)

Real name: Park Jae Beom

Born 1987American171 cm♉ Taurus

Park Jae Beom spent less than a year as a member of JYP Entertainment's 2PM before a social-media controversy in 2009 ended that chapter entirely. What followed was an unlikely second act: a solo career built largely on his own terms, rooted in hip-hop and R&B, sustained across more than a decade of releases, and eventually extended into label ownership. Under the stage name Jay Park, the Seattle-born artist became one of the more durable figures in Korean independent music — an American rapper who carved out a genuine audience in a market he first entered as a trainee.

Debut and reinvention

Park's removal from 2PM, triggered by the resurfacing of old social media posts, left him without a label and, briefly, without a clear path. He returned to the United States before eventually re-entering the Korean music industry as a solo act, signing with SM C&C and releasing his debut EP *Count On Me* in 2011. The same year he issued a full-length album, *New Breed*, along with a cluster of singles — "Bestie," "Demon," "Girlfriend," and "Speechless" — that established his creative range across melodic R&B and harder-edged rap. The sheer volume of material released in that first year signaled the pace he intended to maintain.

A second EP, *Take a Deeper Look*, also arrived in 2011, followed by the album *Fresh Air: Breathe It* in 2012. The pace did not slow.

Music and discography

The 2013 song "Joah" became one of his more widely circulated tracks, notable for blending Korean-language vocals with a pop-R&B structure that travelled beyond niche hip-hop audiences. "Around the World," also from 2013, pointed toward a more globally minded sensibility. The album *EVOLUTION* followed in 2014, then *WORLDWIDE* in 2015, and *EVERYTHING YOU WANTED* in 2016 — a run of full-lengths that, alongside the 2016 EP *Scene Stealers*, amounted to one of the more prolific output records among Korean solo artists of the period.

*The Road Less Traveled* in 2019 continued that trajectory. More recently, "Need to Know" appeared in 2022, and "Ganadara" — a collaboration that drew considerable attention — ranks among his representative works. His catalog also includes the single "Abandoned" and the track "Does She."

Throughout this body of work, Park operated across Korean and English, moving between rap-forward material and smoother vocal tracks. His background in b-boy culture and American hip-hop informed a sound that never sat entirely within the conventions of mainstream K-pop production, even as individual songs reached pop audiences.

Label and business activities

Park co-founded AOMG, a Seoul-based hip-hop label that became a significant force in Korean independent music, before later establishing MORE VISION, where he serves as both CEO and artist. The dual role has shaped much of his recent activity: he has spoken publicly about performing over 200 featured appearances without accepting payment, framing the collaborations as investments in relationships and the broader scene rather than straightforward commercial transactions.

In early 2026, he announced a collaborative mixtape with MORE VISION act LNGSHOT — *4SHOBOIZ Vol. 2: 4SHOVILLE* — describing the project as a team effort within the label's extended creative family rather than a conventional CEO-artist pairing. LNGSHOT had reached 100 million streams within 59 days of debut, a milestone Park acknowledged publicly.

Activities

Beyond recorded output, Park has maintained a visible presence through his YouTube channel JAYPARKSSI, where content has ranged from candid personal recollections — including a tribute to his late friend, photographer Pho Waller — to appearances by guests such as Epik High. That episode, in which the duo offered a mix of career advice and comic needling, reflected the rapport Park has built within Korean hip-hop's longer-running community. His Sexy 4eva World Tour is listed among his live activities.

Standing

Jay Park's career arc — from a high-profile exit out of one of JYP's flagship groups to more than a decade of self-directed output and label building — is relatively unusual in an industry where the trainee-to-debut pipeline tends to define an artist's trajectory. His work sits at the intersection of Korean and American hip-hop without resolving neatly into either, and his continued activity as both a recording artist and an executive into the mid-2020s reflects a position he has maintained through consistent output rather than a single defining commercial peak.
