Seungkwan (승관)

Boo Seung-kwan, known professionally as Seungkwan, anchors the vocal identity of one of K-pop's most structurally ambitious groups. As the main vocalist and youngest member of SEVENTEEN's Vocal Team, he has spent the better part of a decade serving as one of the group's most recognizable sonic and on-screen presences — a role that extends well beyond the recording studio into variety entertainment, mentorship, and independent content creation.

Within SEVENTEEN

SEVENTEEN, the thirteen-member group under Pledis Entertainment (now part of the HYBE umbrella), operates through an internal unit system that divides members into Performance, Hip-Hop, and Vocal teams. Seungkwan holds the position of main vocalist within the Vocal Team, placing him among the act's primary carriers of melody across the group's extensive discography. He also participates in the sub-unit DK X Seungkwan alongside fellow Vocal Team member DK, a pairing that highlights the group's practice of spotlighting individual and small-group dynamics within its broader ensemble structure.

Sub-unit work with BSS

Outside of SEVENTEEN's full-group activities, Seungkwan is a member of BSS (also known as SEVENTEEN-BSS), a three-member sub-unit. His role within that configuration further demonstrates the range Pledis and HYBE have cultivated around him — moving from the dense harmonic layering of SEVENTEEN's vocal arrangements into a smaller, more nimble creative setting.

Activities beyond music

Seungkwan has established a consistent presence in variety and digital content, a space where his personality has proven as durable as his vocal output. His YouTube channel, 177, has served as a platform for candid, often comedic interactions with peers across the industry. A notable installment brought him together with RIIZE members Sungchan and Sohee, during which Seungkwan took on an impromptu coaching role — critiquing Sungchan's execution of a trending dance challenge and offering hands-on corrections. The exchange, which circulated widely, illustrated both the cross-generational rapport he maintains within the idol industry and the comfort he brings to unscripted formats. His reach across entertainment circles was further underscored when volleyball star Kim Yeon-koung appeared alongside him and offered a candid admission that she had once disliked him due to his support of a rival sports team — a moment that, in its lightness, reflected the kind of public goodwill Seungkwan has accumulated outside his primary music career.
