Sungchan (성찬)

Jung Sung Chan, performing as Sungchan, occupies an unusual position in SM Entertainment's roster: a member of both the sprawling NCT universe — holding roles in the main group and its rotating subunit NCT U — and RIIZE, the six-member group that SM launched as a distinct next-generation act. That dual alignment makes him one of the few artists currently active across two of the label's flagship franchises simultaneously.

Debut & Formation

Sungchan was introduced to the public through NCT, SM Entertainment's open-concept group structured around rotating subunits rather than a fixed lineup. His involvement with NCT U, the unit built around unit-specific projects rather than a permanent configuration, placed him in the more fluid, project-driven side of that system. His concurrent membership in RIIZE, which debuted as a separate group under SM, marked a departure from the typical NCT pipeline and reflected the label's strategy of developing artists across multiple platforms at once.

Activities

Beyond his recorded work, Sungchan has appeared in cross-artist content reflecting the broader K-pop industry's culture of senior-junior mentorship. In April 2025, SEVENTEEN member Boo Seung-kwan featured Sungchan and RIIZE labelmate Sohee on his YouTube channel, where he offered direct feedback on Sungchan's performance of a trending dance challenge — pointing out stiffness in his movement and coaching him toward a more natural delivery. The segment drew attention for its candid, good-humored tone, with Boo Seung-kwan's direct corrections landing as entertainment rather than critique.
