The 2017 debut single "Fire Up (이 노래가 클럽에서 나온다면)" announced Cho Seung Youn — performing under the name WOODZ — as a singer-songwriter with a clear commercial instinct and a distinct identity in South Korean pop. Balancing work as a solo artist with membership in the groups UNIQ and M.O.L.A, WOODZ has built a presence that spans multiple corners of the domestic market.
Debut & Formation
Born in 1996, Cho Seung Youn launched his solo career as WOODZ in 2017, carving out a lane as both performer and songwriter. His group affiliations added further dimension to that career: UNIQ (유니크), a South Korean-Chinese act, and M.O.L.A, in which he serves as main rapper and lead vocalist — roles that reflect the dual musical identity, rap and melody, that also runs through his solo output.
Music & Discography
"Fire Up" remains the track most closely associated with WOODZ in public conversation, its title's parenthetical — literally "if this song plays in the club" — signaling the dancefloor ambition baked into the record. As a songwriter, Cho Seung Youn has been involved in shaping his own material, a point of differentiation in an industry where artist-writers remain a distinct minority among idol-adjacent acts.
Activities
By 2026, WOODZ had sustained enough of a domestic profile to appear repeatedly in TenAsia's monthly "Artist Top Ten K-Pop Genre Brand" rankings — a global fan-voting competition that gauges the most talked-about artists in South Korea each month. He was named among the April 2026 honorees alongside acts including Kim Yong-bin, and appeared as a competing entry in the February, March, and May 2026 cycles, placed against charting artists such as Hwasa and Soyou. While these rankings measure fan engagement rather than sales or streams, recurring inclusion across consecutive months points to a consistent and active audience.
