Yoon (formerly Seungyoon)

Kang Seung-yoon first drew national attention in 2010 as a top-four finalist on Superstar K 2, Mnet's high-profile survival audition series, before carving out a longer career as the leader and main vocalist of WINNER. Under the stage name Yoon — a simplified form of the Seungyoon by which he was long known — he has remained one of the more compositionally involved figures in his group, a vocalist who has spoken openly about the sometimes unconventional methods behind his songwriting.

Debut & Formation

His path to WINNER ran through the kind of public exposure that few idol-track artists receive before their formal debut. The Superstar K 2 platform, which aired when Kang was still a teenager, established him as a vocalist capable of commanding a mainstream audience well before a label debut was announced. He subsequently went on to debut as part of WINNER under YG Entertainment, eventually assuming the roles of leader and primary vocal anchor for the group.

Music & Discography

Kang has described his lyric-writing process in unusually candid terms. Appearing on Kyuhyun's YouTube channel in early 2026, he acknowledged the limits of drawing only on personal experience and explained that dating reality shows — which compress the emotional arcs of strangers into watchable form — serve as a meaningful source of material for his writing. The admission offers a window into a working method that treats observed emotion as legitimate raw material, a practical stance for a vocalist whose output has remained consistent across WINNER's active periods.

Activities

Beyond recording and performance, Kang has been visible as a point of continuity for WINNER during periods when the group's full lineup has been unavailable. When member Song Min-ho faced public controversy in early 2026, Kang responded by writing a handwritten letter to fans — a gesture that spoke to his role not only as musical leader but as the member most publicly associated with maintaining the group's relationship with its audience.
