DIA (다이아)

"WOOWA," a playful 2019 single built around a folk-inflected hook and bright choreography, stands as the clearest distillation of what DIA (다이아) spent five years working toward: a girl group identity that balanced pop accessibility with enough personality to cut through a crowded mid-tier market. Formed by MBK Entertainment and debuting on September 14, 2015, the group navigated a shifting line-up and an evolving sound across four albums and several EPs before releasing their final project, *Flower 4 Seasons*, in 2020.

Debut and Formation

MBK Entertainment launched DIA in September 2015 with the album *Do It Amazing*, a title that doubled as the group's founding premise. The name DIA itself stands for "Diamond," signaling the label's ambitions for the act. The group's roster was not fixed at the outset; membership shifted across several years, eventually reaching ten members at its broadest configuration. Among those who passed through the line-up were figures who had already built public profiles elsewhere — most notably Jung Chaeyeon, whose visibility from the reality competition *Produce 101* brought a significant surge of attention to the group in 2016.

Music and Discography

DIA's output across five active years covered a range of pop textures without settling into a single defining mode. The 2015 debut album *Do It Amazing* established the group, while 2016 saw two follow-up releases — *Happy Ending* and *Spell* — that allowed the group to develop their sound during a period when public recognition was growing. The 2017 album *YOLO* and the accompanying EP *Love Generation* pushed the group toward brighter, more upbeat pop territory, a direction that continued into the 2018 summer EP *Summer Ade*.

The *Newtro* EP in 2019 reflected a broader industry trend toward retro-influenced pop — "newtro" being the portmanteau of "new" and "retro" that circulated widely in Korean pop culture that year. Released in the same period, "WOOWA" became the group's most representative single, its folk-pop construction and energetic staging making it the track most consistently associated with DIA's identity in retrospect.

*Flower 4 Seasons*, released in 2020, served as the group's final extended play, closing out a discography that spanned five years and moved through multiple sonic registers without a dramatic reinvention at any single point.

Members

DIA operated with a large and changing roster. At its fullest, the group included:

• Seunghee — leader, main vocalist, face of the group
• Huihyeon — leader, main rapper, lead dancer, vocalist
• Jung Chaeyeon — member
• Chaeyeon — vocalist, rapper, visual, face of the group
• Eunice — main vocalist, main dancer
• Eunjin — main dancer, lead rapper, vocalist
• Yebin — lead vocalist
• Jueun — main vocalist
• Jenny — vocalist, rapper, visual
• Eunchae — lead vocalist, lead dancer, lead rapper, maknae
• Somyi — lead dancer, vocalist, rapper, maknae

The dual-leader structure — with both Seunghee and Huihyeon holding that role at different points — reflected the group's unsettled configuration over time. Jung Chaeyeon's involvement was particularly notable: her profile, raised by *Produce 101*, made her one of the group's most publicly recognized members during the mid-career period.

Activities Beyond the Group

Several DIA members pursued work outside the group's releases throughout its run, a common arrangement in groups managed by mid-tier labels. Following the group's activity winding down, former member Jo Seung-hee — who had served as a leader under the stage name Seunghee — moved into acting. As of 2026, she confirmed a role in the MBC daily drama *Family Relations Certificate*, playing Han Jung-won, described as a broadcast writer. The casting continued a pattern of DIA alumni building careers in adjacent entertainment fields after the group's active period concluded.
