LE SSERAFIM (르세라핌)
Active쏘스뮤직
When "Perfect Night" arrived in late 2023, it did something relatively few K-pop releases manage: it crossed over into general streaming consciousness well beyond the fandom, accumulating hundreds of millions of plays and introducing LE SSERAFIM to listeners who had not yet tracked the group's rapid ascent. That moment was less an outlier than a confirmation. In less than two years of activity, the five-member group under HYBE's Source Music label had established themselves as one of the more commercially durable acts of K-pop's fourth generation, with a run of Billboard 200 top-ten albums and Oricon chart dominance that few of their peers have matched at a comparable stage.
Debut & Formation
LE SSERAFIM launched on May 2, 2022, under Source Music, a HYBE subsidiary. The group's name operates on two levels: it is an anagram of "I'm fearless" and carries the meaning of seraphim in Hebrew, a dual identity that the group has leaned into thematically across their releases. The debut came with six members — Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, Hong Eunchae, and Kim Garam — though Kim Garam departed from the group not long after the debut, leaving LE SSERAFIM as the five-member lineup that has continued since. The fandom is known as FEARNOT, a name that mirrors the group's own positioning around fearlessness and the permission to be vulnerable.
Music & Discography
The group's early discography moved quickly. Their debut extended play "Fearless" (2022) was followed later that same year by "Antifragile", whose title track became a significant streaming and chart performer domestically and helped build the group's international profile. The 2023 full-length "Unforgiven" marked their first album-length statement, and "Perfect Night," released as a single in 2023, proved to be among their most broadly reaching titles, accumulating the kind of streaming numbers that land a song in rotation beyond core K-pop audiences.
The group's 2025 extended play "Hot" and the compositions accompanying it, including "Crazy" and "Easy", kept the group active ahead of a more substantial 2026 campaign. That campaign opened with the single "Celebration", released in April 2026 alongside a music video framing solidarity and perseverance as its central theme. The full album "Pureflow, pt. 1" followed in late May 2026, with "BOOMPALA" — a word the group coined for the release — serving as its title track. The album title itself is an anagram of "POWERFUL," continuing LE SSERAFIM's pattern of building conceptual wordplay into their releases. Tracks including "iffy iffy," "Sonder," "Trust Exercise," "Liminal Space," and "Irony" round out the album alongside the mythologically titled "Eve, Psyche & the Bluebeard's Wife," a track that had already built recognition prior to the album's release.
The group described their headspace going into "Pureflow, pt. 1" in notably candid terms, speaking publicly about overcoming stage fright and approaching performances with a deliberate effort to set aside pressure in favor of presence.
Achievements
LE SSERAFIM's commercial record across their relatively short career is one of the more consistent in their generation. "Pureflow, pt. 1" debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard 200 — giving the group five consecutive albums in the top ten of that chart, a benchmark that reflects sustained general-market album sales rather than chart positioning driven by bulk pre-orders alone. The album recorded 34,000 album sales and 7,000 streaming equivalent album units in its tracking week and topped Billboard's Top Album Sales chart.
In Japan, the group has built an equally strong foothold. "Pureflow, pt. 1" topped Oricon's Daily Album Ranking on its release day with 68,497 copies sold, and the achievement was notable for a specific reason: it marked the seventh consecutive Korean-released album by LE SSERAFIM to top the Oricon chart, a record that, at the time of release, was cited as unique among fourth-generation K-pop girl groups. The group had also achieved their second overall double platinum certification in Japan by early 2026, underscoring the depth of their market presence there.
"BOOMPALA" added a music show win to the tally in June 2026, taking first place on Mnet's M Countdown in its third week of release — a timing that suggested genuine chart legs rather than a first-week peak driven by concentrated fan voting.
Members
LE SSERAFIM currently consists of five members:
- Kim Chaewon
- Sakura
- Huh Yunjin
- Kazuha
- Hong Eunchae
Kim Garam was part of the original six-member lineup at debut in May 2022 but is no longer with the group.
Activities
Beyond music releases, LE SSERAFIM have maintained visibility through brand collaborations and platform partnerships. A 2026 collaboration with Roblox embedded the group into the Berry Avenue game on that platform's Seoul map, allowing users to engage with choreography from "Celebration," interact with visual elements from their music video, and watch performances by member avatars — an extension of the gaming-adjacent promotional work the group had been developing. The group has also undertaken the Flame Rises Tour and the Easy Crazy Hot Tour, building their live presence across markets.
Legacy
Still in the early phase of what appears to be an ongoing commercial run, LE SSERAFIM have positioned themselves as one of the more internationally legible acts of their generation. The combination of consistent Billboard 200 top-ten placement, unbroken Oricon chart success across seven albums, and streaming visibility beyond core K-pop audiences sets them apart from groups whose metrics remain primarily domestic or fandom-concentrated. Whether that crossover footing deepens will depend on how the material from "Pureflow, pt. 1" travels — but the foundation through 2026 is one of the steadier in fourth-generation K-pop.
