Tzuyu (쯔위)

Among the international faces who helped define TWICE's global reach, Taiwanese-born Chou Tzuyu — known professionally as Tzuyu — has stood as one of the group's most recognized members since the lineup debuted under JYP Entertainment on October 20, 2015. Her presence in one of South Korea's most commercially successful girl groups has drawn sustained attention well beyond the act itself, making her a notable figure within the broader K-pop landscape.

Debut and formation

After approximately two years of training at JYP Entertainment, Tzuyu joined TWICE as its sole Taiwanese member at debut. Born in Tainan City on June 14, 1999, she was among the youngest members of the nine-member group when it launched, having been selected through the JYP survival program that shaped the final lineup.

Standing within TWICE

Tzuyu's profile within TWICE has extended into solo activities alongside her continued role in the group. As TWICE accumulated one of the more substantial commercial track records of its generation in K-pop, her visibility as a member contributed to the group's reach across markets in Asia and internationally. Her position within an act that has sustained activity across more than a decade places her among the more established figures to have come through the JYP system.

Public profile

In early 2026, Tzuyu drew renewed public attention when she responded directly to online criticism urging her to lose weight. The response drew solidarity from international fans, who in turn directed criticism at those who had initially targeted her. The episode underscored the ongoing scrutiny that high-profile K-pop artists face regarding their appearance, and the degree to which TWICE's fanbase remains vocal in responding to commentary about its members.
