TWICE member Tzuyu has reportedly been approached about working in China on the condition that she publicly support the "One China" principle.

Taiwanese media outlet Mirror Media reported Aug. 31 that entertainment manager Chao Shao-wei had been in contact with Tzuyu's family about her possible activities in China after her contract with JYP Entertainment expires later this year.

According to the report, Tzuyu was told she could receive support for appearances on major Chinese television networks and large-scale concerts if she publicly stated that "there is only one China" or that "Taiwanese people are Chinese."

Nothing has been finalized. Chao said discussions have been put on hold while Tzuyu and JYP are in talks over a possible contract renewal. He also denied that his contact with Tzuyu's family had any political purpose.

The report has brought renewed attention to a controversy Tzuyu faced early in her career. In 2015, she drew backlash in China after holding a Taiwanese flag during an appearance on MBC's "My Little Television." The following year, then 16-year-old Tzuyu released a video in which she apologized and said that "there is only one China."

Tzuyu has not directly addressed the latest report. In a Bubble message to fans on Aug. 31, she told them not to worry too much and said their support gives her strength.

JYP said last month that TWICE is currently in a contract renewal period and that it will share an update once a decision has been made.
