U-KISS (유키스) made their live debut on M Countdown on August 28, 2008, performing "Not Young" — entering a K-pop landscape that was beginning to reach international audiences, and positioning themselves early as a group with genuine cross-border ambitions. Over the years that followed, the NH Media act built a catalog spanning Korean, Japanese, and English-language releases, earning a following — known as KISSme — that extended well beyond South Korea.

Debut and Formation

The group launched in 2008 under NH Media, and within their first year had already released two EPs: *ContiUKiss* and *Bring It Back 2 Old School*. The 2009 single "Man Man Ha Ni" marked an early commercial and promotional foothold, establishing the group's presence on Korean music programs and introducing them to a wider domestic audience. "Bingeul Bingeul," released in 2010, continued that momentum as the group worked to define a consistent sound across back-to-back releases.

Music and Discography

U-KISS worked at a notably prolific pace during the early 2010s, releasing material across multiple formats and markets. The 2010 full-length *Only One* and its accompanying single "Shut Up!" helped consolidate the group's profile, while 2011 brought what many observers regard as a creative high point: the album *Neverland*, alongside the singles "Tick Tack" and "Someday." The Japanese single "Tick Tack" in particular demonstrated the group's ability to operate across markets, bridging their Korean fanbase with the Japanese music industry's distinct release infrastructure.

The years 2011 and 2012 were especially active. A live album, *1st Kiss Tour in Manila*, documented their reach into Southeast Asia — a region where K-pop was gaining significant traction during that period. The 2012 EP *DoraDora*, album *Stop Girl*, and the Japanese release *A Shared Dream* reflected a group sustaining simultaneous activity across multiple territories. "Dear My Friend" and "Believe" rounded out what was one of their most output-heavy stretches. The single "0330" also emerged as one of the group's more enduring representative works, noted for its melodic, mid-tempo character distinct from the group's more uptempo material.

Output slowed after 2013's *Collage*, with *Action* arriving in 2015, *One Shot One Kill* in 2016, and *Glory* in 2018 — the latter marking a decade-on return to recording activity.

Members

U-KISS has seen considerable lineup movement over its history, with the current configuration listing the following members:

  • Soohyun — Leader, Lead Vocalist
  • Kevin — Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Face of the Group
  • Eli — Main Rapper, Vocalist
  • Hoon — Main Vocalist
  • Jun — Rapper, Vocalist
  • Kiseop — Vocalist, Visual
  • AJ — Main Rapper, Vocalist
  • Kim Kibum — Vocalist
  • Alexander (Xander) — Rapper, Vocalist
  • Allen Kim / Jun Young — additional members associated with the group's extended roster

The group's multinational composition — including members with English-language fluency — contributed to their ability to engage international media and fans directly, a relatively uncommon asset in K-pop at the time of their debut.

Activities

Beyond recording, U-KISS maintained a visible live presence, particularly in Asia. The Manila tour album from 2011 reflects an early and sustained engagement with Southeast Asian markets. Former member Lee Jun-young has since transitioned into acting, appearing in Korean dramas and, as of 2026, discussing the broader phenomenon of idol-to-actor career trajectories in an interview setting — citing peers such as Im Si-wan and Do Kyung-soo as examples of successful transitions. Former member Dongho, who departed the group and married at a notably young age — drawing media attention at the time — has remained a subject of tabloid coverage in the years since, separate from the group's musical activities.

Legacy

U-KISS occupies a particular position in second-generation K-pop: a group that sustained activity across nearly a decade of releases, navigated the competitive idol market through significant lineup changes, and cultivated an international fanbase at a time when Korean acts had limited infrastructure for doing so. Their representative works — "Man Man Ha Ni," "Shut Up!," "Someday," "0330" — remain reference points for the era's sound. The *Glory* album in 2018, arriving ten years after their debut, signaled a continued commitment to the group's identity even as the broader industry had moved through multiple generational shifts.
