Rainbow (레인보우)
Rainbow arrived on the K-pop scene in November 2009 under DSP Media, and over the following seven years built a catalog that moved between bright, uptempo pop and more dramatically styled material. Their 2010 singles "A" and "Mach" established an early identity rooted in sharp choreography and a high-gloss girl-group sound, while later releases such as "To Me", "Sweet Dream", and "Gonna Gonna Go!" broadened their reach across successive comeback cycles. The group's fandom, known as Rain-nous, followed them through a discography that eventually stretched to several full-length albums before activity wound down in the mid-2010s.
Debut and early years
Rainbow debuted on November 12, 2009 with the extended play Gossip Girl, introducing a seven-member lineup assembled by DSP Media, the Seoul-based label also home to KARA and SS501. The debut positioned the group within a competitive second-generation girl-group landscape, and the follow-up singles "A" and "Mach" in 2010 gave the group their clearest early moments of visibility, with "Mach" in particular drawing attention for its energetic performance style.
The 2011 EP So Girls continued the run of releases, accompanied by the songs "To Me" and "Sweet Dream," which demonstrated the group's range within a broadly pop-leaning framework. By this point Rainbow had settled into a reliable release rhythm, with DSP Media cycling them through comeback promotions across multiple years.
Music and discography
The group's output across the early 2010s was notable for its variety of tonal registers. The 2012 singles "Gonna Gonna Go!" and "Hoi Hoi" leaned into a more playful, accessible mode, while the full-length Over the Rainbow that same year served as a broader artistic statement. Rainbow Syndrome followed in 2013, and the group continued releasing material into the mid-decade period.
The 2015 album Innocent and its associated single "Black Swan" marked a sharper stylistic turn, with a darker, more theatrical aesthetic that distinguished the release from the group's earlier work. Prism, released in 2016, rounded out the group's active discography under DSP Media. A self-titled EP, Over the Rainbow, appeared in 2019, serving as a retrospective release that coincided with the group's tenth anniversary and signaled the enduring connection between the members and their shared history.
The group also released music under a distribution arrangement with Universal Music Group, extending their international availability during their active years.
Members
Rainbow comprised seven members across their active period, with Jaekyung serving as leader, main dancer, lead vocalist, and the group's visual center. The vocal core included Jisook and Hyunyoung as main vocalists, with Hyunyoung also holding the maknae position. Seungah served as lead vocalist, while Noeul and Yoonhye each contributed as vocalists and rappers. Woori was the group's main rapper and lead dancer. Go Woori is listed separately in the current member record.
Activities beyond the group
Several members have maintained public profiles after Rainbow's active promotional cycle concluded. Jaekyung transitioned into acting and has taken on a range of dramatic roles, including her first Japanese drama, DREAM STAGE, completed in early 2026, in which she played a producer character described as requiring both composure and emotional range. Go Woori has similarly pursued an acting career, and in May 2026 attended a Rainbow member gathering at 18 weeks pregnant, an event that drew public attention for underscoring the group's continued closeness years after their peak promotional activity.
