USPEER Returns as Six-Member Group With 'BITE DISTRICT' After One-Year Hiatus
K-POP group USPEER has returned with a brighter image and a stronger bond as the group begins a new chapter with its first mini album, "BITE DISTRICT."
"We've waited for this comeback for so long that it almost feels like we're debuting again," member Chaena said during a media showcase held at Myunghwa Live Hall in Seoul on Wednesday.
The comeback marks USPEER's first release in about a year since its debut single album, "SPEED ZONE." It is also a significant turning point for the group, as "BITE DISTRICT" is USPEER's first release since transferring from WM Entertainment to MW Entertainment and its first comeback as a six-member act following the departure of former leader Yeowon.
Despite the changes, the members said the time away from the spotlight only strengthened their resolve.
"There were difficult moments during the past year, but I think our team became much closer," Soee said. "I was so happy during our debut promotions, and I'm even happier to return after such a long wait."
Seoyu added, "Thank you to everyone who waited for us. We've come back as a stronger USPEER."
The new mini album reflects that growth. Sian described "BITE DISTRICT" as "an album that shows USPEER's expanded world after growing and moving forward together."
The group explained that "BITE" symbolizes the playful beginning of a relationship rather than its literal meaning. The album captures youthful emotions, honest reactions and the warmth that naturally develops as people grow closer. It also expands the group's narrative from "ZONE" to "DISTRICT," representing a broader world and deeper relationships.
The title track, "WICKED GAME," features an addictive hook and emotional sound. The song portrays the innocent feelings of girls who struggle to be honest in front of someone they like.
Roa described it as "a song that expresses the awkward feelings girls have when they're in front of someone they like."
Veteran lyricist Seo Ji-eum, known for writing hits for EXO, Lovelyz and OH MY GIRL, participated in the song, adding to its emotional depth. The track also highlights USPEER's youthful vocals and bright energy.
The members also pointed to the song's performance as one of its charms, introducing a playful "peek-a-boo" dance move during the showcase that reflects the song's cute and mischievous atmosphere.
Looking back on the past year, Seoyu said the members spent much of their time encouraging one another.
"We talked a lot about wanting more people to know USPEER and wanting to succeed together," she said. "I think we've grown both mentally and musically."
As for what they hope to hear this time around, Seoyu said, "I hope people think, 'This is the USPEER I've been waiting for.'"
USPEER's first mini album, "BITE DISTRICT," will be released at 6 p.m. Wednesday on major music streaming platforms.
