Taeyeon 'Manchanga' Hits It Big After Joining Hands with RESCENE
K-POP soloist Taeyeon has landed near the top of Korea's music charts with a Korean-language remake of a Japanese hit. The song, "Manchanga," is the first release from a new remake series titled "J-POP REMAKE."
"Manchanga" dropped on June 29th at 6 p.m. KST across major music platforms. Right after release, it hit No. 1 on both the real-time chart and the daily chart of the domestic music site Bugs.
As of the morning of the 2nd, the song sat at No. 13 on Melon's "Top 100," No. 5 on the "Hot 100" for songs released within 100 days, and No. 1 on the "Hot 100" for songs released within 30 days. It also ranked 17th on Genie's real-time chart. On YouTube Music, the track climbed to No. 1 on Korea's trending videos, showing steady traction across major platforms.
With the first release from the series pulling this kind of chart response, fans are already watching for the next tracks and the lineup of artists set to join the project.
"Manchanga" reworks a song that was a hit in Japan, with new Korean lyrics in place of the original. Taeyeon kept the mood of the source track while shaping the vocals in her own style.
The music video, released alongside the song, features RESCENE members Wonie and Minami rather than the vocalist herself. The clip follows a girl carrying an emotional wound and another girl who reaches out to her, translating the song's tone into a visual story.
The "J-POP REMAKE" project is built around Japanese songs reinterpreted through the voices of Korean artists. Starting with "Manchanga," the team behind the project plans to roll out more remakes featuring different artists in the months ahead.
