Actor Kim Jung-hyun Makes Singing Debut
Actor Kim Jung-hyun is stepping onto a music stage for the first time since his acting debut. The KBS2 variety show "Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend" airs its 763rd episode on Friday at 6:05 p.m. KST.
The episode, titled "Immortal Songs: The Day We Sing," honors the late singer-songwriter Kim Kwang-seok through the cast of the musical "The Days" (Geunaldeul), which reinterprets his best-known songs. Performers include Choi Jin-hyuk, Kim Jung-hyun, SANDEUL of B1A4, Park Kyu-won, and Lee Ji-soo.
Kim Jung-hyun, who is preparing for his own singing debut, said this was his first time performing on a formal stage. "Singing on an official stage is completely new for me," he says, visibly nervous. Sandeul jumps in to reassure viewers. "He's just being humble. He really can sing," Sandeul says.
The two end up in an unexpected rivalry during the taping. Sandeul, a regular on the show, jokes that he has lost track of how many trophies he has won. That prompts Kim Jung-hyun to call out his co-star's teasing streak.
"It was my first time on 'Immortal Songs,' so I went to Sandeul hoping to get some scouting done, but he wouldn't tell me anything," Kim Jung-hyun says. "I'm definitely beating Sandeul. If he slips up today, I'll flash the brightest smile of my acting career."
For his song, Kim Jung-hyun performs Jung Joonil's "Gobaek." Host Shin Dong-yup calls the performance "better than I imagined." Singer Lee Chanwon adds, "It sounds like he studied this song a lot. He sounds exactly like Jung Joon-il." Comedian Kim Jun-hyun chimes in with a joke about the delicate mood of the performance, saying that if he were a woman, he would want to hug the singer from behind.
Even Sandeul, cast as his rival for the night, gives his approval. "See? I told you he could sing," Sandeul says. "Jung-hyun has this quality that makes you curious about him."
The episode airs Friday at 6:05 p.m. KST on KBS2.
