YOUNG POSSE Reimagines KARA's 'Mister' on First Mixtape 'young tape'
K-pop group YOUNG POSSE is set to release its first mixtape, a project the members have been building since their trainee days. The five-member group will drop "young tape" on July 13 at 6 p.m. KST across major streaming platforms.
YOUNG POSSE, made up of Jeong Sun-hye, Wi Yeon-jeong, Jiana, Doeun, and Han Ji-eun, recently shared the tracklist and a highlight medley for the mixtape on the group's official social media.
The title track, "Mister 2026," is a rework of "Mister," the 2009 hit by senior labelmates KARA. The new version rebuilds the original chorus using a chipmunk-style flip, a technique associated with U.S. rapper Kanye West. The song leans on pitched-up vocal samples, synth riffs, and FX sounds, and adds new melodies and rap sections that were not in the original.
"young tape" is built as a personal project. Every track except the title song was written by the members themselves, with 11 self-composed cuts in total. The material draws on their own emotions and experiences from their teens through their early 20s.
The release marks a step forward for a group that has framed its identity around writing and producing its own music. By pairing self-written songs with a reinterpretation of one of their agency's biggest hits, YOUNG POSSE positions the mixtape as both a personal statement and a nod to the label's history.
