aespa's Karina Reveals Extreme Diet Routine on 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator'
aespa's Karina pulled back the curtain on her extreme weight-management routine during a recent variety show appearance. The idol described a body that swings quickly in both directions and a punishing method she once used to shed pounds overnight.
Karina appeared alongside fellow aespa member Winter on the JTBC variety program "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator," which aired on the 12th.
"I'm the type who gains fast and loses fast," Karina said on the show. She explained that her weight can shift dramatically within a single day. "My weight is really elastic. I've gained four kilograms in one day, and I've lost four kilograms on the same day. I just ate whatever I could get my hands on and patted my stomach, and when I checked the scale, I had gained four kilograms. I had to weigh in the next day, so I had to lose it quickly."
She then walked viewers through the method. "I turned on the heater in the practice room and wore leggings, a sweat suit, a hoodie zip-up, and even a padded jacket. I ran for five to six hours until 100 songs finished playing. Then I went home and soaked in a half-body bath for an hour."
Former soccer player Ahn Jung-hwan, a cast member on the show, said the routine was designed to drain water weight. Karina agreed and admitted the toll it takes. "Doing that leaves a person completely drained. I'm older now, so I can't eat like that or work out like that anymore. These days, even getting caught in the rain makes my body ache," she said, drawing laughs from the panel.
Karina also opened up about a physical feature she has long been self-conscious about. "My arms are a bit short. People don't notice because I keep them bent, but they're short compared to my height. That's why I can spot other people with short arms. Up through middle school, my nickname was Tyrannosaurus," she recalled.
She added a story from her school days. "I held my arm up against the shortest kid in my class, and mine was still shorter. I'm 168 centimeters tall, and that friend was in the 140s."
