Sunmi Reveals She Coached DAY6's Young K as a Bassist on 'Amazing Saturday'

Singer Sunmi is opening up about an unexpected connection to DAY6's Young K, saying she helped shape him into the bassist fans know today. The story airs on the July 18 episode of tvN's variety show "Amazing Saturday" at 7:30 p.m. KST, which also features Tiffany Young and Jung Taek-woon.

On the episode, Sunmi shares that she personally trained Young K back when both were under JYP Entertainment. Sunmi, who played bass in Wonder Girls, tells the cast, "I helped Young K grow as a bassist." The reveal catches the other guests off guard.

Sunmi then turns to MC Boom for a favor, joking that he is "the go-to guy for making new songs go viral" and asking him to help promote her latest release. Boom responds by putting together a special promo team made up of Kim Dong-hyun, Nucksal and Young K, dressing them in red, yellow and blue traffic-light outfits.

Tiffany Young weighs in on Hyorisu, a group that has been floated as a rival to TaeTiSeo. "They can hit the high notes, but the harmonies are lacking," she says, before adding that "TaeTiSeo needs to get back together and settle this," setting up a playful showdown.

Jung Taek-woon shares his own surprise connection, this time with rapper Hanhae. The cast reacts to Hanhae's recent shift into variety television, adding to the laughs.

For the appetizer round, the show plays a charades-style game focused on movies, dramas and musicals. Sunmi captains "Team Sunmi" against Tiffany Young's "Team Yumi." Sunmi picks the entire traffic-light promo team, Kim Dong-hyun, Nucksal and Young K, in one move and works through the clues with them.

Tiffany Young takes on the role of clue-giver and lands one sharp hint after another. Jung Taek-woon throws himself into the physical gags to help his team score. The dictation round that follows uses tough songs. Mid-game, Jung Taek-woon admits he feels "overwhelmed" by the pressure and makes an unexpected slip. His mistake even spawns a so-called "Taek-woon Zone" that throws the other members off.

By his third appearance on the show, Sunmi has figured out how the dictation game works, and she locks in a key word at the right moment. Tiffany Young leans on her musical-theater training to lift the team's spirits with her vocals. In the dessert round, "A.I., Draw Me a Picture: Song Edition," the guests take the stage. Young K goes back to his day job as a singer to show off his vocal skills, and Kim Dong-hyun brings the laughs with a performance in the spirit of Turbo superfans.
