Ha Ji-won to Throw First Pitch at Fenway Park, First Korean Actor on MLB Mound
Korean actor Ha Ji-won is set to become the first Korean actor to throw a ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park, one of Major League Baseball's most storied venues.
Ha will take the mound on July 21 local time in Boston, before the regular-season game between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. Fenway Park has stood as a landmark of American baseball for more than a century, and no Korean actor has thrown a first pitch there before.
The Fenway appearance comes just days after Ha returned to the mound at home. On July 16, she threw the first pitch at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, at a game between the LG Twins and the KT Wiz. It was her first time throwing a ceremonial pitch in 12 years.
"I feel deeply honored to become the first Korean actor to throw a first pitch at Fenway Park, such a historic ballpark that represents Major League Baseball," Ha said. "I've been practicing hard, and I want to deliver a great moment. I hope to send winning energy to the Red Sox players, and to share this special moment with Korean American fans at the stadium and baseball fans around the world."
Ha is currently a student at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, where she is filming the web variety show "26 Freshman Ji-won" (26 Hakbeon Ji-woniyo), a series built around her interactions with Gen Z college students on campus. She is also set to return to the big screen on September 2 in the film "Bigwang."
