KATSEYE Seems to Lose Predictable Image with Noir-Inspired "Animal"

Global girl group KATSEYE has announced its next single, "Animal," which will be released on July 24 at 1 p.m. KST, along with a surprise music video teaser offering a first look at the group's new concept.

The teaser, released on July 21 through the HYBE Labels YouTube channel, introduces a darker, more mysterious atmosphere than the group's previous releases. The video opens with Megan, dressed in a red mini dress and black leather jacket, walking through a dimly lit office hallway before entering a room where several members, dressed in tailored black suits, appear to be gathered around a conference table.

The contrasting styling between business attire and bold leather-inspired looks immediately establishes the teaser's cinematic, suspense-driven tone. The video frequently shifts between cool blue lighting and deep red hues, emphasizing the noir-inspired aesthetic which is a different aesthetic to what the members have experimented with through previous releases such as "GNARLY" or even "Touch."

The teaser also hints at the song's narrative through visual motifs and a brief lyrical preview. Near the end of the clip, a member appears to bite down on her nail before the word "Freaky" is revealed across it. Moments later, the line, "Keep your secret safe with me," plays over the closing shots, adding to the suspense surrounding the release.

Alongside the teaser, KATSEYE unveiled the official single artwork, featuring a shadow-filled scene with a figure dressed in a leather trench coat and stilettos. The red-and-black color palette and cinematic styling continue the suspense-inspired concept introduced in the teaser.

The pre-release of "Animal" arrives ahead of the group's third EP, "WILD," which is scheduled for release on August 14. Moreover, fans have continued to speculate whether the return of on-hiatus member Manon is to be expected throughout this roll new album roll out however as time goes on, it seems like this will continue to be a five-member release.

Since debuting through the HYBE x Geffen Records partnership in 2024, KATSEYE has continued to expand its global profile with appearances at major music festivals, including Coachella and Lollapalooza, as well as multiple award show wins.
