Nam Joo-hyuk to Star in Disney+ Thriller "Code" From "Weak Hero" Director
Disney+ has set a 2027 global release for its upcoming original series "Code," a mystery crime thriller starring Nam Joo-hyuk. The show reunites director Yoo Su-min, best known for the hit series "Weak Hero Class 1, 2," with a cast that also includes Lee E-dam, Kim Eui-sung and Park Hoon.
"Code" follows a lawyer who bends the law for his own gain and finds himself invited to a mysterious app called Code, which promises to grant wishes for a price. The setup drives a story about the true cost of ambition.
Nam Joo-hyuk plays Yoon Tae-ju, a former prosecutor's investigator turned lawyer who will do whatever it takes to succeed. He dreams of becoming a partner at a top law firm, but his life shifts when he receives an unexpected invitation from Code. The actor has built a wide-ranging filmography across genres, from the action thriller "Vigilante" to the romance drama "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" and the coming-of-age series "Start-Up," as well as the recent "The East Palace." Yoon Tae-ju gives him a chance to show a darker, more driven side.
Interest in "Code" is already building thanks to Nam's current work. His latest series "The East Palace" reached No. 2 on Netflix's global Top 10 for non-English TV shows within three days of release.
Lee Yi-dam plays Park Ji-dam, a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office who chases the truth behind the cases tied to Code. She shares a past with Yoon Tae-ju, and their tense encounters fuel much of the show's drama. Lee's previous credits include "The Art of Sarah," "Can This Love Be Translated?" and the film "Pavane."
Kim Eui-sung plays Cho Cheol-ho, a hacker and North Korean defector who becomes an unexpected ally to Yoon Tae-ju as he digs into Code. Park Hoon rounds out the main cast as Im Chang-jae, a violent crimes detective who is as close as a brother to Yoon and helps him with his investigation.
Yoo Su-min directs. The filmmaker earned international attention with "Weak Hero Class 1, 2," a school-set action drama about young outsiders pushed to their limits. The script comes from writers Yang Hyun-ah, Kim Gun-woo and Kim Hyung-jun. The team says the show will use its core idea, that every wish comes with a price, to strip down the reality of human desire.
The series is produced by SLL, Y Works Entertainment and Playgram.
"Code" premieres worldwide on Disney+ in 2027.
