TVXQ, BTOB, OH MY GIRL, BOYNEXTDOOR Leaders Unite on JTBC's 'Knowing Bros'
BOYNEXTDOOR's leader Myung Jae-hyun is opening up about a difficult stretch early in the group's career, when he felt the team was not gaining traction as quickly as he had hoped.
Myung will appear on the 537th episode of JTBC's "Knowing Bros," airing July 25 at 9 p.m. KST. The episode brings together leaders from four K-pop groups spanning different generations: TVXQ's U-Know Yunho, BTOB's Seo Eun-kwang, OH MY GIRL's Hyojung, and BOYNEXTDOOR's Myung Jae-hyun. Each shares stories about leadership and life inside their groups.
U-Know Yunho explains the story behind his long-running nickname "SM ghost." He says the name came from years of heading to the company to practice whenever he had free time. He also shares a story that fits his reputation for intensity. During his military service, he was offered a position as a career non-commissioned officer. He seriously considered it and even reached out to his agency, hoping to become "the first career NCO from the entertainment industry."
BOYNEXTDOOR's Myung Jae-hyun, who leads the group under HYBE sublabel KOZ Entertainment, speaks candidly about the pressure he felt after debut. "After debuting with BOYNEXTDOOR, I felt like things weren't going as well as I'd hoped, so I lived with real intensity," he says. He explains that this is why he throws himself into variety appearances without holding back. "If they ask me to do it, I do it all," he says, living up to his nickname "Muri-myung," a play on his willingness to go the extra mile. Host Kang Ho-dong takes an immediate liking to the first-time guest, telling him, "I don't think I can say goodbye to Jae-hyun today," and even pulling him onto his lap.
Seo Eun-kwang shares a story from his trainee days. "Because of my visuals, I was always on the verge of being cut," he says. "But they liked that I stayed consistent and hardworking, and that's how I ended up becoming the leader."
Hyojung talks about her softer side as a leader. "Honestly, I'm a pushover leader," she says. "I love the members too much to get angry, so I end up crying in the middle of trying to talk to them." She then surprises the hosts by admitting, "If I debuted again, I wouldn't want to be the leader."
The four leaders and their behind-the-scenes stories air on "Knowing Bros" on July 25 at 9 p.m. KST.
