Global girl group KATSEYE has climbed to No. 1 in South Korea's buzz rankings on the back of its new single, "Animal."

According to K-POPIT BOARD, a K-pop analytics index, KATSEYE posted a domestic Power Index (PWR_KR) score of 72.8 on July 30, taking the top spot in the overall domestic ranking. The Power Index pulls from global streaming charts, social media activity, video consumption, fandom response, and media exposure.

The group's underlying numbers point to broad interest. Its Fandom Health Index (FHI), which measures the strength and stability of a fanbase, came in at 91.7. That steady fandom support helped push the new song quickly on global charts. "Animal" hit No. 1 on Spotify's Top Song Debuts Global chart for July 24 to 26 and No. 2 on Top Song Debuts USA. On release day, it entered Spotify's Daily Top Songs Global at No. 9 and Daily Top Songs USA at No. 4, setting a new career-best in the United States.

Interest also spread well outside the core fandom. The D-layer index, which tracks attention from general listeners, jumped 259 percent from the previous week. Part of that surge came from an unexpected source. U.S. music outlet Billboard drew accusations of racial discrimination after leaving out the individual image of Korean member Yoonchae in a social post introducing "Animal." As fan complaints piled up, Billboard removed all individual member photos and kept only a group shot, but issued no explanation or apology. A similar situation happened in May, when Billboard also left Yoonchae out of a photo set featuring KATSEYE members.

The group's Viral Conversion Rate (VCR), which measures how online buzz translates into actual listening, landed at 64.9. What made this possible was KATSEYE's musicality. KATSEYE managed to turn a difficult controversy into fresh attention for its music. New listeners who first heard about the group through the Billboard incident also noticed that Ed Sheeran is credited as a co-writer on "Animal," and stayed to listen. As word of the collaboration and the song's global chart run spread, that curiosity moved from social feeds to streaming plays.

The comeback and the Billboard controversy together drove a sharp rise in media coverage. That shows up in the group's Media Attention Score (MAS), which reached 98.5.

With global streaming momentum and domestic buzz feeding each other, KATSEYE landed at the top of the domestic Power Index. For a group built on overseas growth, the result signals that its presence in South Korea is growing, too.
