Netflix has set an August 28 global release date for its Korean mystery thriller "Mousetrap," unveiling a teaser poster and trailer on Thursday. The series stars Ryu Jun-yeol, Sol Kyung-gu and Lee Kyu-hyung as three men chasing a mysterious figure known only as the "Mousetrap."

The show draws its title from a traditional Korean folktale called "The Wild Rat That Ate the Fingernails," in which a rodent that swallows a person's clipped nails eventually takes on that person's form and life.

"Mousetrap" follows Moon-jae, a reclusive novelist who loses his name, his face and his entire life to a stranger. As he tries to prove who he is, he crosses paths with Noja, a loan shark hunting the money that vanished with him, and Soon-yong, a detective working the case. The three end up pulled into the same chase.

The series comes from director Kim Hong-sun, whose credits include "Dear Hongrang," "Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area," "The Guest" and "Voice." The scripts are by writer Lee Jae-gon, known for "A Model Family" and "Special Affairs Team TEN."

The teaser poster centers on Moon-jae, played by Ryu Jun-yeol, staring straight ahead with a grim expression. A second face surfaces behind him in the dark, blurring the line between the two. Scattered black ink forms the outline of the "Mousetrap," and a tagline reads, "If I can't prove it, I become the fake." The image sets up a man caught between his real self and the double who is erasing him.

The teaser trailer opens on Moon-jae's quiet, closed-off life. His mobile banking app rejects his fingerprint. A window shatters. In that moment, he realizes someone has been watching him for a long time.

When he finally steps outside, no one recognizes him. Noja, played by Sol Kyung-gu, forces his way into the hunt with a line that sets the tone of the series. "This is a messed-up game where you have to find yourself," he tells Moon-jae. Detective Soon-yong, played by Lee Kyu-hyung, starts digging into the case from another angle, and the chase spills into hand-to-hand fights and car sequences. The trailer closes on the voice of the "Mousetrap" itself: "Guess who I am. Aren't you curious?"

"Mousetrap" premieres worldwide on Netflix on August 28.
