LIGHTSUM Begins Japan Re-Debut Journey Through New Documentary Series
LIGHTSUM is set to document its next chapter with a new Japanese original documentary that follows the group's preparations for a re-debut in Japan.
The seven-episode series, "Re:Idol," will premiere Aug. 9 on Japanese streaming platform ABEMA. The program chronicles the six members' efforts to launch a new phase of their career in Japan as they mark their fifth anniversary as a group.
The documentary follows LIGHTSUM's preparations behind the scenes, capturing the members' concerns, ambitions and personal growth as they take on a new challenge. Each member shares her own perspective throughout the series, while actress Kwon So-hyun, a former 4Minute member and senior artist under the same agency, also appears in the program.
Since releasing digital single "POSE!" in 2024, LIGHTSUM has stayed active through a variety of music projects, including unit releases, cover songs and self-produced tracks that showcased the members' individual strengths. Those activities now lead into the group's latest overseas venture.
"Re:Idol" marks the beginning of LIGHTSUM's Japanese promotions, with the documentary expected to offer fans an inside look at the group's journey as it works toward a fresh start in the market. New episodes will be released weekly beginning Aug. 9.
