All-Rounder Mimi: OH MY GIRL Member Expands from Variety and DJing to Solo Producer
Mimi of K-POP girl group OH MY GIRL, known to Korean audiences as an "occasional genius" from her variety show appearances, is making her first move as a singer-songwriter. She has been active as a DJ since 2022, and for this solo debut she took part directly in the writing, composing and producing.
Mimi's agency, WM Entertainment, announced her solo debut on the 7th. Her first solo single, led by the title track "Bish Bash Bosh," drops on the 20th at 6 p.m. KST. Mimi led the overall production.
Mimi has long served as OH MY GIRL's rapper, writing her own parts throughout her 11 years with the group. She has been praised for crisp diction that carries lyrics clearly, and her signature husky tone is often cited as a strength.
On variety television, she reveals a very different side. On the tvN series "Earth Arcade," her mumbled delivery and off-the-wall answers to mission questions became a running joke that pulled in a wide audience. Every so often, though, she cuts through a question the other cast members are stuck on with a clean, correct answer. That mix earned her the nickname "occasional genius." On the back of that popularity, Mimi won the "2025 Viewers' Choice Popular Star of the Year" at the 30th Consumer's Day KCA Culture and Entertainment Awards last year.
Her clips have become some of the most-watched short-form content on tvN's official YouTube channel, tvN Joy. Videos featuring Mimi rank second overall in total views on the channel. One clip alone, in which her pronunciation of the word "mayonnaise" sends the entire set into laughter, has drawn 20.72 million views.
Another standout moment came when the cast was asked to recite a famous line from the film "Avatar." Mimi, with a completely earnest look on her face, blurted out "tto-ru-kkyu-mak-tto." The official short-form video of that scene alone has racked up 7.18 million views. Viewers filled the comments with lines like, "Mimi is funny because she isn't trying to be funny," and "She's not just saying the words, she sounds like an actual Na'vi from Avatar, which makes it even funnier." She has left a trail of other viral wrong answers, including "chok-chok-han-chyo-kyo-kyu-ki-chip-ku-ki-chip-a-ni-cho-ko-ku-ki-chip" and "Gardasil's Women's Era."
An Yu-jin of the group IVE, who appears alongside Mimi on "Earth Arcade," said on the YouTube channel "Channel Fifteen Nights" that she has "given up on trying to be funny because of Mimi." "Isn't Lee Eun-ji the one who feels most defeated?" she added. Producer Na Young-seok chimed in, saying that from Lee Eun-ji's point of view, "it feels like a skill she has trained her whole life just got shut down in one shot by someone with natural talent."
Mimi first picked up DJing through a broadcast appearance in 2022 and has stuck with it, gradually expanding into full music production. Working under the name DJ MIXMIM, she runs her own YouTube channel as a DJ. She posts mostly hip-hop mixes, along with videos that fold in OH MY GIRL tracks and clips from her practice sessions. She has uploaded five videos so far.
