All four members of BLACKPINK have now issued apologies in succession after fans criticized how the group marked its 10th debut anniversary. Now the question is whether those apologies will be followed by actions that give fans confidence in the group's future.

BLACKPINK recently hit its 10-year mark, but the milestone was overshadowed by controversy. Fans voiced disappointment over the scale and handling of the anniversary event prepared for them. Expectations were high for a moment meant to honor a decade together, and the disappointment ran just as deep.

As the backlash grew, the members stepped up. Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa each offered apologies, followed by Jennie on Aug. 17, meaning all four members had personally addressed the controversy. That the members did not brush past fans' frustration and instead spoke up themselves is a positive sign.

Still, apologies alone are not enough to put the issue to rest. The controversy goes beyond one event. It also raises a broader question about how BLACKPINK will maintain its connection with fans going forward.

Individual success matters, but so does what the members show as BLACKPINK. BLACKPINK renewed its contract with YG Entertainment for group activities, while the members now manage their solo careers separately. Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa are all busy in their own lanes, spanning solo music, acting, and fashion. As solo work has taken on a bigger share of their schedules, every full-group album, concert, and fan event carries more weight than it used to.

The timing of this controversy, on the 10th anniversary itself, stings even more. With group and solo careers running on separate tracks, the debut anniversary carries added significance as a moment for the four members and their fans to come together under the BLACKPINK name. Fans were not asking for something huge or flashy. After 10 years, they most likely wanted a moment that properly marked the milestone with all four members and gave them a reason to look forward to what comes next.

This does not mean BLACKPINK needs to return to the release and promotion pace of its early years. The group is a decade in, and each member's solo career is now a core part of the picture. What matters more than the frequency of group activities is giving fans something to look forward to as a full group.

It does not have to be only albums or tours. Simply showing up together at meaningful moments, whether at fan events or on the debut anniversary, carries weight. Even if the gaps between full-group activities grow longer, fans need to know there will be a next one.

BLACKPINK's path could offer a glimpse of what lies ahead for other veteran idol groups taking a similar approach. More groups are moving away from the traditional model of handling both solo and group activities under a single agency, with members pursuing individual careers through separate companies while reuniting for group activities when needed. As this model becomes an increasingly viable option for balancing solo and group careers, how BLACKPINK maintains its full-group activities and its relationship with fans could set an important precedent for other groups that follow.
